OUR HISTORY

The church of Christ at this particular congregation's location was started by numerous brethren from other churches of Christ congregations around different areas. These brothers came together and saw a need for the work in the Selmont area of Selma, Alabama. The congregation was formed in the Selmont location by God's glory on June 22, 1976. We are truly grateful for all of their handwork and dedication to the Lord. Our location is identified as church of Christ at Idaho Street because we meet at 705 Idaho Street for services. The congregation's location name was previously Sunny Acres church of Christ but was changed to meet the location of where we meet so as to be identified by its geographical area location. In scripture, churches of Christ were identified in such a way. Scripture records,

Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea (Revelation 1:9-11).

1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

1 Thessalonians 1:1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
